A Bit About
Master Magician Bruce Meyers
Master Magician BRUCE MEYERS will entertain any audience with a combination of side-splitting comedy and illusions that will leave everyone's jaws hitting the table! He performs a variety of magic using some simple everyday objects, as well as some not so everyday objects. He can make the impossible appear and then disappear, ropes stand straight up on their ends, things float about, pure white Indian Doves appear to perform tricks of their own, and audiences laugh...Boy! do they laugh!!! The material used in these shows, (yes there is more than one) is an accumulation of over 34 years of public performances in North America and Western Europe.
A Conversation With How many performances do you give in a year? Whats the range of your travels? I do about 150 to 175 shows a year, 15 of which are full-stage productions. The rest are corporate shows and parties. I limit my work to Washington and Oregon, although an occasional project may take me out of the area briefly. Why is your show unique from any other magic show? I think it's because I put my audiences first. The audience, to me, is the sacred entity. I know people need to be entertained, dazzled, surprised, mystified, inspired; they need to feel good, laugh and be happy. And I'm going to do what it takes for them to get there and still be there when they wake up the next morning. I've been at this for 34 years. I'm well seasoned, accomplished and experienced I'm not an accountant who also does a few magic tricks. Most of the material I perform is original, unique, and created by me. Even when I perform 'the classics' the routine, delivery and presentation is contrived with audience enjoyment as the main objective. Why is magic so much fun for kids? Children are always seeking a license to have fun. Magic show are just such a license. Being a natural "lunatic," I share this trait with kids and strive to make each show the most fun possible for them. My excuse is, "It's my job." The truth is, I'm having as much fun as the kids! You know, kids suspect that there really is power in those magic wands, and they're right -- there is! It doesn't embarrass a child to express wonder. Do adults really enjoy magic, or are they busy trying to figure out how those tricks work? Adults love magic. In fact, I find that magic transforms adults into children again, especially in the privacy of a darkened theater. The adult experience with magic has an added reward because they also enjoy their child's response to the show. I want adults to feel that my illusions are wonderful, entertaining, awesome, and that they don't know or really care how it was done. How long have you been doing magic, and when did you turn "pro?" This September begins my 34th season of performing for the public. It began in 1962, when a Scoutmaster talked me into performing for a Cub Scout Blue & Gold Banquet. I finally agreed to do it, but only under the condition that I wanted absolutely no pay. The show was a success, and after the show a scout ran up to me and pushed an envelope into my hand. Inside was $5 and a very warm "thank you" from the Scoutmaster. So much for my artistic purity! From then on, instead of having a paper route like other kids, my part-time job was performing magic for company and fraternal club parties In the 1980s I took a break from magic when my daughter Melissa was born with spina bifida. Faced with the need for many surgeries and intensive care, I needed regular hours and a steady paycheck. In the 1990s, as Melissa's health stabilized, I was able to get things fired up and moving again. A lot of magicians are so serious on stage, but you you're always smiling and cracking jokes. When you think about it, magic is all about having fun. When the audience gasps or is uplifted by something I think is beautiful and mysterious, or laughs at something I think is funny, we not only have a meeting of the minds but more importantly, a meeting of the hearts |

Meyers Stage Show In his new stage show, "Reality Schmeallity," the charismatic entertainer combines dazzling magic and engaging humor in a high-energy performance that's especially suited for families. His show combines beautiful and captivating illusions with zany comic antics, accompanied by energetic music that ranges from classical to rock. Meyers has dazzled thousands in business, workplace, school, trade show and private party settings throughout the Pacific Northwest, but he produces fewer than 15 full-stage productions annually for general audiences, and nearly all are sell-outs. "This is the first time in 13 years I've had the opportunity to perform a full stage show for my hometown fans in Snohomish County." says Meyers who lives in Stanwood. "And, given this rare opportunity, I've planned some illusions never before seen by any of my audiences." Audiences members should plan to become involved with Meyers as he performs. "This will be an interactive show; Ill be encouraging the audience to have as much fun as I'm having on stage," he says. like any good magician, Meyers doesn't tip his hand, but he promises to make two volunteers from the audience float in the air simultaneously. And each audience member will receive a set of Groucho glasses for use during a segment of the show Meyers' performances captivate people beyond those devoted to magic. "Bruce's magic is excellent, but the real magic on stage is his personality," says Martin Iverson, stage manager of the Brodial Hall Auditorium at Anacortes High School where Meyers has sold out each of his last eight shows "Im not always a fan of magic, but I'm always a fan of Bruce Meyers' magic," Iverson says. |
